Simon Danczuk backs business scheme to boost charities

BITC.jpgROCHDALE MP Simon Danczuk has welcomed a new scheme which aims to give a boost to local charities.

Business in the Community has brought its Business Connector scheme to Rochdale.

Hilary Pogson, the town’s new Business Connector, will be working with businesses to encourage them to do more to help local charities.

The project is run by experts from the public and private sector who take a break from their day job to help local charities by using their time, networks and expertise to connect the needs of the local community with local businesses.

Mr Danczuk met with Hilary, who is on a one year secondment from HM Revenue and Customs, to discuss her role and suggest local charities in need of some extra assistance.

Mr Danczuk said: “I think this is a fantastic idea and I am delighted that Hilary will be working hard to give a helping hand to some of Rochdale’s many great charities.

“We are lucky that here in Rochdale we have several wonderful employers who already do a great deal for the community.

“But with the help of the Business Connector’s scheme we can be sure that help and resources are going to the organisations that need it most. I have written to local businesses to encourage them to get involved."

Hilary said: “I’m thrilled to be the Business Connector for Rochdale and am grateful to have the opportunity from HMRC to undertake this role.

“I believe business has a vital role to play in supporting and working with the voluntary sector and am very much looking to forward to making a real difference to the local communities and individual people that live here.”
