As we move from Government to Opposition, we must not lose sight of the vital tasks that we attempted but did not complete. Few are more important than the achievement of a Palestinian state alongside a secure Israel in a peaceful Middle East. That is why I gave the issue such prominence in the debate in the House of Commons on the foreign affairs aspects of the Queen's Speech. I put particular emphasis on the importance of not ignoring Gaza, including in any peace talks. It is tragic that less than a week after I made those comments we...

Simon Danczuk, the Member of Parliament for Rochdale, has condemned the Israeli's attack on the Gaza aid ship, the Mavi Marmara, which occurred in the early hours of this morning. Mr Danczuk said: "Attacking an aid ship in international waters, against international law, and killing some of the occupants is utterly disgraceful. Time and again we see the Israeli state making unilateral violent attacks anywhere in the world, acting like what can only be described as a rogue nation." He continued: "The reason people are trying to get aid into Gaza by sea is because the Israeli Government are...

Simon Danczuk, Rochdale’s Labour Parliamentary Candidate, and a founding executive committee member of Labour Friends of Palestine said: “The way the Palestine people are being treated both in Gaza and the West Bank by the Israeli state remains a disgrace. I saw with my own eyes how terribly the Palestinian people are being treated when I went out there 18 months ago and, if anything, the situation has got worse. Sir Gerald Kaufman, who is the longest serving MP in Greater Manchester, made the controversial remarks at a recent public meeting held at the Star of Bengal restaurant in Rochdale. “The Palestinian people have suffered so much – as the recent Goldstone report endorsed by the United Nations Human Rights Council proves – that they are ready to go on suffering,” he said. “If something better...
