MP right on cue to re-launch Littleborough Youth Services

Littleborough

Youngsters visiting Littleborough Youth Services were recently given a pleasant surprise when their local MP awarded them a brand new pool table.

To mark the re-opening of the service after a refurbishment period, Rochdale’s MP Simon Danczuk donated an £800 pool table he received as runner-up in a Parliamentary pool competition.

“I was delighted to give the table to Littleborough Youth Services so youngsters can enjoy playing pool,” he said. “I spent quite a bit of time playing pool at my local working men’s club as a youngster but I haven’t picked up a cue in years.”

With late night sittings in the House of Commons a regular part of an MP’s life, Mr Danczuk said he had entered the Parliamentary pool competition as a bit of light entertainment while voting late at night.  Progressing from one round to the next he eventually lost a tight-fought final against a fellow MP and was awarded the table from Rileys, as runners up prize.

“I suppose some people will say that being good at pool is a sign of mis-spent youth,” he said afterwards. “In my case I simply liked socialising at my local club with fellow youngsters. I think it’s vitally important that we have good youth clubs where youngsters can meet people their own age and socialise. Keeping youngsters off the streets and providing good facilities for them is crucial. With so many cuts threatening youth services these days I’m very encouraged to see Littleborough Youth Services having such a vibrant well-attended club.”

At the re-launch of Littleborough Youth Services, Simon played a few frames of pool with teenagers and then held a discussion on youth issues.
