Money raised to help Palestinian people
|
Milkstone and Deeplish Labour Party have held one of their classic curry nights to raise funds for the people of Palestine.
Rochdale Labour members and friends gathered at Rochdale Labour Club to taste the cuisine from across the world and helped raise £300 in the process.
John Beasley, former councillor and prominent Milkstone and Deeplish community activist said: “A few months ago we raised money for the people of Burma and now we’re supporting the Palestinian people. Next we’ll be helping those people in Baluchistan in Pakistan who were devastated by an earthquake. We pride ourselves on contributing what little we can to people adversely affected by disasters around the world.”
Simon Danczuk, Rochdale’s Labour Parliamentary Candidate, spoke at the Palestine fundraiser and said: “The Palestinian people have suffered for far too many years and I know they will appreciate the money that has been donated. As always with Milkstone and Deeplish Labour Party’s curry nights everyone had a thoroughly good night and was very well fed!”
Councillor Imtiaz Ahmed said: “We’ve been campaigning hard to help raise concerns about how the Palestinian people are treated and we won’t stop with this fundraiser. There has to be justice in the Middle East and even people here in Rochdale can make the case for a fairer deal for our Palestinian brothers and sisters.”
