AT this time of year, it is my privilege as Rochdale’s MP to attend a variety of Christmas events and share in the festive cheer across the constituency.
It has been a pleasure to visit several Christmas fairs organised by some of Rochdale’s many fantastic local churches, charities and community groups over the last two weeks. Last weekend, I was proud to accept an invite to the Rochdale Parachute Regiment Association’s Christmas party, it was a memorable evening and a great time was had by all. A huge thank you to everyone who has asked me to take part in their celebrations and I am looking forward to attending even more events in the run-up to Christmas.
Another highlight of the festive season for all Rochdale residents was the spectacular Christmas light switch on which featured incredible live music and performances. We have seen some spectacular and highly successful events in Rochdale this year, including the Feel Good Festival and the Literature and Ideas Festival. The Christmas lights switch on ceremony was just the latest in a series of popular activities and the perfect way to round off what has been a positive 2015 for our town centre.
Christmas is a time for sharing and thinking of others. That’s why I’m delighted to announce that I will be spending this weekend helping raise funds for one of Rochdale’s best loved local charities. I’ve been training hard to take part in the 10th annual Springhill Hospice Santa Dash or Dawdle on Sunday. Seeing so many runners dressed as Father Christmas take on the course around Hollingworth Lake is always a spectacular site and I’m really looking forward to being part of it this year. I hope to see some of you there to help cheer all the participants across the finish line.
