Karen Burke: Kingsway’s Labour candidate for 2011 local elections

Karen BurkeBorn and bred in Rochdale, Karen Burke is the Labour Party candidate for Kingsway. A mother of two, 27-year-old Karen is standing to help build a strong Labour team in the ward and tackle years of neglect by our Liberal Democrat Council.

Working alongside Councillor Daalat Ali, who was elected in May this year, Karen has already set about identifying issues that are important to the local community. She said: “Fly-tipping, poor street surfaces, potholes and the need for traffic calming measures to address problems with speeding cars are regular concerns brought up by residents.”

Fiercely loyal about our town, Karen lives with her fiancé and their two children. Karen said: “Both my children attend the excellent local Sure Start Nursery, which I’m determined to protect from Tory and Lib Dem Government cuts. I have previously worked for one of Britain’s largest car dealerships, and I am passionate about local business and want to see the Council do more to bring in investment and support entrepreneurs.”

Hoping to be elected in 2011, Karen has already been working hard with Councillor Daalat Ali and our Member of Parliament, carrying out street surgeries in the area, attending area forums, visiting older people’s homes and getting involved in local community projects.
