Fighting for Rochdale, Littleborough and Milnrow
John Hartley has been selected as the Labour candidate for Littleborough Lakeside in May’s local elections. Mr Hartley, who has lived in the ward for 41 years, said he was ‘looking forward to campaigning on the issues that matter to the people of Littleborough’.
A member of GMB, one of the country’s largest trades unions, John’s employment background lies in Rochdale’s textiles industry; he worked at the Fothergill and Harvey Mill for 22 years and is proud of the community’s industrial heritage.
Mr Hartley said that, if elected, he will be a friend to the local environment, fighting to keep the area clear and tidy. He will also campaign to improve the parking problems at Littleborough Train Station saying, ‘The new double yellow lines at Rochdale Train Station have encouraged commuters to park their cars outside Littleborough Station, causing real problems for local residents. Now that Milnrow Station has closed, the situation looks to worsen.’
John is also concerned about the Council’s plans to close Littleborough Out Of School Club, which supplies a vital service in a ward whose childcare provision is already well oversubscribed.
