Jason Beckett: Healey's Labour candidate for 2011 local elections

Jason Beckett - Working hard for HealeyI am Jason Beckett, your Labour Party candidate for Healey Ward where I live and am raising my five-year-old son. Rooted very much in the local community  where I am a governor at Healey primary school, I want to protect our area from the cuts and help local business thrive and generate jobs.

Employed by Unite the Union as a senior learning organiser for the North West, I have considerable experience of representing hard-working people and running campaigns. I have previously worked with Rochdale Council and have serious concerns about the deep cuts that our Council are implementing across the Borough and the pace at which they’re driving this agenda.

My fear is that as our Council shrinks the size of the public sector here in Rochdale, the private sector will also suffer, as people will have less money in their pockets and won’t be able to support small businesses and local shops.

Other issues that are important to our community are problems with anti-social behaviour and a need for better traffic management. I am 39-years old and live on Whitworth Road.
