Simon Danczuk, Rochdale’s Labour Parliamentary Candidate, attended the Prophet Muhammad's birthday rally in Rochdale on the 28th February and addressed those in attendance.

Hundreds of Muslims from across Rochdale walked through the town to mark the occasion, which was organised by the Rochdale Council of Mosques.

Simon spoke at the rally, saying: “I am proud to be attending this event and the turnout is fantastic. We have to remember that the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, taught tolerance, peace and equality. These are principles by which we should all live our lives.”

Simon continued his address by saying: “18 months ago myself and Councillor Ibrar Khan visited the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem, in Palestine and we saw how that mosque was being undermined and how Muslim people were being stopped from going there to pray. We saw the injustice that the Palestinian people had to put up with. We should use this day to also remember the way the Palestinian people are being treated and to remember that we need to support those people.”

Simon finally stated: “I’m standing for election in Rochdale and I promise that if I’m elected I will support and represent all the people of Rochdale.”
