Cecile Biant: Spotland and Falinge's Labour candidate for 2011 local elections

Cecile Biant - Working hard for Spotland and Falinge

Cecile Biant, Labour's local election candidate for Spotland and Falinge, has lived in the ward with her family for the past 39 years.

Having brought up two children in the area and having taught electronics and physics in local schools, Cecile is concerned about the Conservative-Liberal government's cuts to child services. These ideologically-motivated cuts are a massive gamble with the future of Rochdale's children.

Cecile has been a highly active, very well-respected member of the local community for many years. She is an active member of the Ding Quarry Action Group, the secretary of Rochdale Friends of East Africa and the Treasurer of Spotland's Women's Association.

Speaking on the record of the Liberal-Conservative coalition council Cecile said: 'I was outraged by the massive council-tax hike – one of the largest in the country – that we suffered under the Liberal-Conservative council. Despite this increase, the Council simply wasted our money. If elected, I will campaign to ensure that services for children and the elderly are prioritised over the Liberals’ publicity machine.'

The Liberal-Conservative coalition council recently collapsed after Liberal Democrat councillors ran away from responsibility. Labour have since taken charge of Rochdale council and will protect the most vulnerable in society.
