Aftab Hussain: Smallbridge and Firgrove's Labour candidate for 2011 local elections

AftabAftab Hussain has been selected as the Labour candidate for Smallbridge and Firgrove for the local elections in May. Mr Hussain said he was proud to campaign for the ward where he has lived with his wife and three children for the last twenty years.

Like many parents throughout Rochdale, Mr Hussain is concerned about the crisis at our Infirmary. ‘My wife and I had the choice to have our children at the local hospital’, he said. ‘However, the bureaucrats’ decision to close our maternity unit means that prospective parents no longer have that choice. This is an outrage; I urge you to join me in signing up to the Foundation Trust so that we can campaign more effectively to prevent more cuts to heath services in Rochdale.’

If elected, Aftab Hussain will work hard to improve the provision of affordable housing in Rochdale. He has a wealth of experience working alongside West Pennine Housing Association, where he gave local residents advice about their housing problems. ‘The Con-Dem government’s plans to remove council tenants’ rights are a complete disgrace’, he added.
